What

To wear on your Snowshoeing trip

You are here: What you NEED

What you NEED

If you don't have appropriate clothing and footwear it's now even easier as we supply waterproof snow boots, over pants, jacket and gloves.

Your own clothing is always best.  However we realise that not everyone travels with the outer wear required to head for the snowy mountains around Queenstown so we do provide a core outer layer in addition to Snowshoes and walking poles.

At the least, we suggest you bring with you the following in a small backpack (which can be shared):

  • Warm hat
  • Small water bottle
  • Sunglasses and Camera (carried at owner's risk)

What to Wear:

Layers
To stay warm and ready for all winter weather conditions, it is important to bring / wear several layers of clothing allows you to remove and add layers as you warm up or cool down. Wool or synthetic clothing like fleece and polypropylene are great for base and warm layers. If possible, avoid cotton clothing as when cotton gets wet (from sweat and weather) it stays wet and gets heavy and cold.

Tops
Layers as above - made from wool or man made fibers. Bring a wind or waterproof coat for over your warm layers (if you don't have one, don't worry we can supply a jacket if you need one).

Bottoms
Snow-pants are great if you've got them, thermal leggings under track-pants (not cotton) or waterproof over trousers (again we can supply over pants). DO NOT wear jeans!

Head & Hands
Don't forget a warm hat and you'll need good gloves (again if you don't have gloves we will have some for you)

Eyes
SUNGLASSES ARE A MUST!
The reflection of the sun off the snow can cause snow-blindness.

Feet
It is essential to be wearing closed-toe footwear suitable for snow. This requires a strong sole and clearly defined flat heel. Snowboard or hiking boots are ideal. At the very least your footwear will be lined and go above your ankle. If you don’t have decent footwear, no worries, we can supply good waterproof Snow boots! Warm polypropylene or wool socks are strongly advised to complete your preparation.
