If you have ever wondered what it’s like to sit on the summit of a mountain, sipping a glass of bubbles, while taking in the 360° views of Mt. Cook, Mt. Aspiring, The Remarkables & Lake Wanaka. With a warm log fire behind you & air that’s so pure, if it could, it would take your breath away.
This all takes place on the deck of the highest private hut in New Zealand, over 5000 feet above sea-level, a privately owned little piece of paradise that Guided Walks New Zealand, has exclusive rights to use. Does this sound like the perfect one night get away? Then this is the Snowshoeing trip for you.
We transport you to the helicopter company, where we fly to the summit, landing just 20 meters from the hut. Here we base ourselves for the night & snowshoe in any direction we choose, making our own tracks as we explore the vast back-country wilderness of Aotearoa, walking along the ridge lines, high above the clouds.
On our return to the hut, we prepare dinner while warming ourselves by the log fire, share stories, sip mulled wine & remember why we are here, to see nothing but stars & hear nothing but silence.
The next morning we pack our belongings & fly back to Wanaka, where we may even have time to stop at New Zealand’s oldest hotel, for a hot chocolate or what ever take your fancy.
